Recently, I have noticed quite an increase in sightings of the Constance Elan among Hermès lovers—both in communities and blogs here in Japan.
Last weekend, I visited my home store to meet with my SA (Sales Associate) and browse around to see if anything caught my interest. As I entered the store, I saw two Constance Elan bags on display for the first time, both in Epsom leather (Craie and Gold). Naturally, I asked my SA if I could try one. The moment I held it, I fell in love! It was absolutely stunning. The one I tried was in Craie with palladium hardware. Just like this one below

To be honest, I was never really into the Constance because of the H buckle—it screams “Hermès.” Additionally, the square shape with two flaps makes it look a little bulky. However, the Elan version feels more “me.” When worn on the shoulder, its elongated shape is more elegant and practical. Plus, it fits more thanks to the single compartment inside, and the design makes it look slimmer and more sleek. I think it pairs beautifully with any outfit—whether elegant or casual—especially when worn on the shoulder.
Now comes the dilemma. While I was trying the bag, my SA asked if I liked the Constance. In my head, I kept wondering if this was worth buying—would it risk delaying my next Birkin or Kelly? My SA has previously told me that Birkin or Kelly allocations aren’t necessarily tied to recent purchases, but who knows? If you’ve just bought a Constance, it seems unlikely that the store would immediately offer a Birkin or Kelly on your next visit.
On the other hand, this might be the perfect opportunity to snag a Constance Elan, as it seems the store just received a good stock. I even read a Japanese blog about someone spotting a Constance Elan at my store, and the next day, another was offered at a different location. So, it is a tough call.
Anyway, I told my SA that my decision would depend on the color, so I did not give a definitive “no.” I’d rather keep the option open and purchase the Constance Elan if I do not have a chance to get a Birkin or Kelly offer this year—I still have one slot.
